Object Name Jar
Description Buttermilk jar, one gallon, cylindrical, clear glass, with applied green labeling, and wire bail handle. On front: "DATSON DAIRIES / BUTTERMILK / CHURNED FROM PASTEURIZED / GRADE 'A' MILK". On reverse: "BUTTERMILK TONES / THE SYSTEM AND / PURIFIES THE BLOOD / IT IS A SKIN / CLEANSER AND BEAUTIFIER / DRINK BUTTERMILK DAILY!" On reverse, in raised letters, on shoulder: "ONE GALLON LIQUID". In raised letters on neck, going vertically upward: "ONE / GALLON" / arrow pointing upward to just below lip / "TO / LINE". Near bottom, on reverse, in raised letters: "SEALED 48", then a triangle next to it, with a line running horizontally through center. Inside triangle: "48 / MINN". On bottom is maker's mark of "I" inside "O" over diamond. To left of mark: "7", to right of mark: "4", and below: "18". Also on bottom: "SCS-48 / TCS-48 CCS-W"

Condition Notes Jar has light scratching throughout; small spots of loss on green lettering; line of dark stains along bottom of front; small, red accretion at bottom edge, on reverse. Wire handle very rusty.
