Title Johnson's Florida
Scope & Content 1863 map of the state of Florida produced by Johnson and Ward. It shows the counties in various colors as well as cities and towns, main roads and railroads, lakes, rivers, bays, and inlets. This map is similar to "Colton's Florida Map," printed eight years earlier in 1855. The Johnson's Florida Map, in comparison to the earlier map, shows small progress being made in the highly underdeveloped South Florida. The many forts near the "Indian Hunting Grounds" in the everglades are starting to be connected by roads. The panhandle's growth is also stretching south more by this time. The range and township grid system is superimposed on the map. This map is in color.
