Title The State of Florida
Scope & Content This is an 1846 map of the state of Florida compiled by J. Goldsborough Bruff and D. McClelland of the Bureau of Topographical Engineers. It shows bodies of water, rivers, areas of forest and swamp, cities and towns, battle sites, trails, forts, county names, and the "District assigned to the Seminoles by the arrangement of Gen. Macomb May 18, 1839". The state is also divided into four (4) sections: West Florida (the western panhandle), Middle Florida (the eastern panhandle), East Florida (Florida east of the "Suwanee" (Swannee) River and north and east of the "Weethlokkoochee" (Withlacoochee) River, and South Florida (Florida south and east of the Withlacoochee). It also has a Legend in the bottom right hand quadrant. There are several insets (see "Insets" under the "Maps" tab), each drawn to its own scale. Lines of latitude and longitude are marked around the edges.
