Title "Bombing the Yellowstone River at Miles City, MT, March 1944"
Scope & Content Photocopy of memoir (20 pages) written by Richard F. Ezzard, Sr. and Fred South. The story tells of a unique domestic bombing run Mr. Ezzard made during World War II. For five days in March 1944, an ice jam had backed up the Yellowstone River in Montana near the town of Miles City. The back up flooded several hundred homes and threatened hundreds more. Ezzard, a member of the U.S. Army Air Force, flew the bombing mission that ultimately broke the ice jam, easing the flood conditions and saving lives, homes, and businesses that would have been flooded had the situation continued.
